Screenprint title Expresso Expression

Expresso Expression

Circa 1980
Screen print
80 x 76 centimeters

Expresso Expression was made as a companion piece to Cool Clones. It is the obverse to the blithely integrated office workers in their uniform of bland expressions, white shirts and neat haircuts; instead these guys sport lived-in faces and black tee shirts. The title of the print, with its reference to coffee, and the dark clothes are an oblique homage to some of the cultural forebears of bohemian culture - the beatniks and the existentialists (the name of the hotel in the background is Hotel Existenzia).
