Ecology

1989-90
Photocopy, fly wire mesh, paper cutout and airbrushed oil colour
56 x 41 centimeters

The scene of people up to their necks in water that occurs in the Vietnam war film, Apocalypse Now, fascinated me as a metaphor for the moral and political mire of that conflict. In this collage the theme is retooled into a scenario of environmental collapse, with two figures stuck in quicksand and contemplating a wasted landscape.
