Night was one of the earlier collages of this series and it is the result of a free ranging approach to incorporating ideas without much of a filter to screen out questionable decisions. The subject of night occurred to me after watching a screen version of the Hermann Hesse novel Siddhartha where a scene filmed in a dark cafe featured numerous small red table lamps. While working on this collage one hot summer night a moth landed on the picture and this event was recorded by painting several small winged insects onto the scene.

The copper strips nailed onto the plywood shapes was a decision made before I settled on a theme, they don't contribute to the logic of the picture but I decided to keep them because add an element of irrationality.
